New energy efficient lighting system for the Gateshead Millennium Bridge is switched on(12/02/2009)
The Gateshead Millennium bridge is wholly owned by Gateshead Council, stretches 126m across the river Tyne and reaches up to 50m above the water. Weighing in at over 800 tonnes, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge can be opened to allow river traffic to pass in just four and a half minutes by eight electric motors.
