TridonicAtco have recently completed the construction of a purpose built manufacturing plant in Spennymoor, Durham for the production of electronic ballasts and emergency invertors. The new facility utilises the company's own winDIM@net lighting management solution to manage the day to day lighting and emergency testing.

The Spennymoor site has been split into 3 distinct areas; production, storage and the offices/development. The production is split into 3 defined control zones using 804 luminaires. These have been grouped to match the footprint of each production line and further broken down to form notional corridors where shift workers can pass though a production area not in use without triggering the complete zone.

Based on DALI and the internet, the winDIM@net system combines the best of both to create a seamless interface between the user and individually controlled ballasts and emergency invertors, including LEDs. As the key to any successful control strategy is ease of use and functionality, local control is maintained via switches and daylight sensors whilst time control and fault reporting is handled centrally. Using a local hub connected onto a building LAN, a virtually unlimited number of proDIM BC9000s can be connected to the winDIM@net lighting server. Each hub (proDIM BC9000) is capable of driving 10 DALI loops or 640 devices per hub.

The advent of DALI emergency has allowed winDIM@net to combine basic lighting management functions with safety testing, providing perhaps the only truly open solution to Emergency testing of self contained emergency lighting. Invertor, batteries, lamp and charger circuit can be monitored and, for the first time, a detailed record that matches the requirements of IEC 62034 can be achieved with a simple software tool and TridonicAtco EM Pro range of invertors for fluorescent and LED lighting.
