Newey & Eyre and NG Bailey have joined forces to provide an innovative electrical solution for the redevelopment of the Arsenal Football Club’s former stadium in Highbury, London.

Hailed as ‘history in the making’, Highbury Square is the name given to the multi-million pound project that has seen the site radically transformed into residential accommodation. The completed Sir Robert McAlpine development consists of more than 700 high specification studios, one two and three bedroom apartments and luxury penthouses, all set within the art deco surroundings of the stadium.

The unique and challenging demands of the project, which incorporated a tight framework of 26 separate completion dates, required an equally bespoke approach to the provision of electrical supplies. As such, NG Bailey enlisted the help of longstanding partner, Newey & Eyre.

Working closely together Newey & Eyre and NG Bailey took a singular approach to the Sir Robert McAlpine project through proactive joint engagement during the very early stages in which the contract was tendered. This allowed the dedicated project office team at Newey & Eyre, supported by NG Bailey, to accurately evaluate the criteria of the contract and devise a strategic solution which was then delivered through one single point of contact.

This unique process offered many added benefits. Through early joint planning, the two teams were able to predict the associated difficulties of multiple deadlines and looked to resolve this by developing box kits. Each contained all the equipment needed for one particular apartment, which were then delivered in batches of ten, all in reusable boxes that could be returned. This not only helped to mitigate risk on labour costs, reduce damage and eliminate waste packaging but also remove the threat of potential theft of goods stored on site. Looking to the logistical problem of the busy London location, a set timetable of fixed delivery was devised with times to maximise efficiency.

Through assigning one main point of liaison, Newey & Eyre was able to pro-actively manage all elements of the NG Bailey account, from monitoring lead-times and keeping on top of surplus stock, to negotiating with suppliers where possible to reduce costs. Other additional benefits included Newey & Eyre’s ability to problem solve and eliminate waste on behalf of NG Bailey.

Dave Alcorn, Senior Project Manager at NG Bailey, explains: “Obviously, this wasn’t a run of the mill contract and, in terms of our electrical supplies, we knew we needed to go beyond the traditional remit of ordering as required to achieve the leanest operation possible. The model we devised with Newey & Eyre was extremely innovative and carried many benefits for us. We hope to work with them again in this way in the future.”

Wayne Bridgehouse, National Sales Manager at Newey & Eyre adds: “Looking to the future, we see it as increasingly important for wholesalers to adopt a more holistic and proactive approach when taking part in projects of this nature. As demonstrated by our involvement at Highbury, this can help to provide real added value for the client. We look forward to working with more clients in this way as we continue to invest in our project offices.”

With project office teams totally dedicated to meeting the challenging demands of larger and more complex projects, Newey & Eyre has the ability to fully understand the needs of the customer and the requirements of the end-user. In addition to this, Newey & Eyre can also offer the ability to order online via Newey’s Online.
